Text Writer (the "Extension") is a free Google Chrome extension published by Keneland LLC ("Keneland", "we", "us"). It helps you write and refine text in the text boxes of web pages, using an AI model from a provider that you connect with your own API key.
This policy covers only the Extension. Our website is covered by the Keneland LLC Privacy Policy.
The short version
- Keneland collects nothing from the Extension. There are no Keneland servers, no accounts or sign-in, and no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising or tracking.
- Your settings and API keys stay in your browser, on your device.
- When you press Generate or Refine, your request goes directly from your browser to the AI provider you chose. Keneland is never in that path. The panel shows which provider will receive it before you send.
- Your API key is only ever sent to the provider and address you saved it for.
- Text already in a box, and text you have selected, is included only if you tick that option. Prompts and drafts are not saved. They disappear when the panel closes.
Information stored on your device
The following is stored locally in your Chrome profile and is never sent to Keneland:
| Information | Why | How it's protected | How to delete it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your AI provider API keys | To call the provider you selected | You choose how it's kept. Encrypted on this device (AES-256-GCM with a non-exportable key generated in your browser) or until the browser closes (memory only). Each key is bound to the provider and address it was saved for. If you change a custom or Azure address to a different host, the saved key is not sent, and you'll be asked for the key for the new host. Keys are never shown again after saving, never put in web addresses, and never logged. | Settings → forget the key, Clear all settings and keys, or uninstall the Extension |
| Connection and writing settings: provider, address, region, model, pinned models, length, tone, output language, formatting, and your custom instructions (up to 500 characters) | To remember your choices and apply them when you write | Stored locally. Custom instructions can include a sign-off or a short note about you, if you type one. They contain no API keys. | Edit them in Settings, Clear all settings and keys, or uninstall |
| Sites where you turned Text Writer off, and whether the bot icon is shown | To respect those choices | Stored locally. Site addresses are not sent anywhere. | Turn a site back on, Clear all settings and keys, or uninstall |
Clear all settings and keys removes every saved key, setting and site list, and also resets the Extension's encryption key. Uninstalling the Extension deletes everything it stored.
These are not saved, even on your device:
- your prompts and refinements;
- generated drafts and earlier versions in the panel;
- text from a web page, including text you chose to include;
- the temporary copy kept so Undo can restore a box.
All of that stays in memory while the panel or the page is open, and is discarded when you close the panel, leave the page or close the tab.
Information that leaves your device, and only when you act
Your chosen AI provider
Nothing is sent until you press Generate, Refine, Load models or Verify connection.
Generate and Refine send the following directly to the provider you selected:
- your writing request;
- the current draft, when you refine or continue it;
- the Extension's writing instructions (for example, to return only the text to insert, and which language to use);
- your custom instructions from Settings, if you wrote any;
- the text already in the box, only if you ticked Use text in this box;
- the text you selected, only if you ticked Use selected text.
The address of the page, your browsing history and the rest of the page are not sent. The Extension does not record keystrokes.
Load models and Verify connection send your API key, and for Verify a one-line test prompt, to the same provider. Requests are not allowed to redirect to other servers. Your API key travels only in the request to that provider, only to the host it was saved for.
The Extension can connect only to the providers below, and only if you select them:

Each provider handles your data under its own terms and privacy policy, which you agreed to when you created your API key. That includes whether prompts are retained or used for training, and where data is processed. For OpenAI, the Extension asks that responses not be stored. Review your provider's data controls before sending confidential or regulated information.
Text on a web page
The first time you click the Text Writer toolbar button, Chrome asks whether the Extension may run on websites. Until you allow that, it does not run on sites in the background.
After you allow it, the Extension notices when you click into a long text box so it can show its icon. It does not read the box until you open the writer and tick Use text in this box or Use selected text, and it does not change the box until you press Transfer.
It does not appear in password fields, payment fields or one-time-code fields, and it does not run in Google Docs.
You can turn it off for one site, or for every site, at any time.
What Keneland receives
Nothing. Keneland LLC runs no servers for the Extension and receives no personal information, API keys, prompts, drafts, page text, usage statistics or crash reports. Links to keneland.com or to a provider's site open as normal web pages only when you click them.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy (Limited Use)
The use of information received from users complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. API keys, prompts, drafts and any text the user chooses to include from a web page are stored only in the user's browser and are sent only to the AI provider the user configures, at the user's request. Keneland does not operate servers for this extension, does not collect analytics, and does not sell, transfer or use this data for advertising, creditworthiness or any purpose unrelated to helping the user write text.
Children
The Extension is a tool for writing on the web. It is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age where you live.
Security
The Extension is built on Chrome's Manifest V3 platform with a strict content security policy and no remotely hosted code. AI responses are treated as text and are never run as code. No storage or transmission method is perfectly secure, so use a dedicated API key with only the access it needs, and remove it when you no longer need it.
Your choices
You control all information the Extension handles. You can disconnect a provider, forget a key, clear all settings, turn the Extension off for a site or for every site, remove site access in Chrome's extension settings, or uninstall the Extension. Because Keneland holds no data about you from the Extension, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. For information sent to a provider, contact that provider.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and publish the new version at this address. Material changes will also be noted in the Extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
